Basic

Good morning everyone, I'm asking for some advice. I'd like to switch to Sangokai Basic. I have a 250-liter net tank, SPS/LPS. I'm currently using Balling Ati Essentials SPS (60ml per day for both KH and Ca), a bacterial protocol, amino acids, and Coral Vitalizer from Korallen Zucht. Can you give me some advice on how to proceed? What should I discontinue and what should I continue using? Thanks in advance. Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi!
If you want to switch to Sangokai, then you will need the Basic (Basis) System, consisting of Basis #1 (for Micronutrients), Basis #2 for trace elements and the Basic #3, which is an extra, that is not present in any other coral feeding system.
To keep you sea water constant in terms of KH, calcium and the other components you need the Balance System consisting of KH, Ca1 and Ca2. When you have these, you can basically skip all the other things you are currently using like bacterial protocol, amino acids and coral vitalizer.
KH, Ca1 and Ca2 are dosed based on consumption, just like in any other system. For the Basis System it´s pretty easy. After a 5 week initiation plan, to make you corals familiar with the system, you dose Basis #1 and #2 in the same dosage every day. No playing around or adjusting necessary.
So it may sound a lot in the beginning, but it is pretty easy. I have one 4 channel dosing pump that does all the work. Basis #3 is the only thing you need to dose by hand twice a week, because it is a suspension.

Hi, thank you so much for the very detailed and clear answer. Just one question: after the initial five weeks, can I mix Basic 1 and Basic 2 in the same container and add them with a dosing pump? I have a 4-head pump, so 3 channels for Balance and 1 for Badic, right?

Yes. I do exactly this. Mixing 1 and 2 in equal parts.

Perfect, obviously if the intended dosage were 30 ml for Basic 1 and 30 ml for Basic 2, I would set up a dosage meter for a 60 ml daily dose (split into several small doses).
Thanks again and have a good day.

You can mix basis 1 and 2, but should not store the mixture longer than 8 weeks (especially in your container for the dosing pump).

Nope. You should NOT split the dosing of basis 1 and 2 in smaller doses. It should be dosed in one single flush per day, at least 2hrs before „sunset“.

It´s an important point dusky mentiones here. Basic 1 and 2 are always given in single shot doses. That is because some take-up mechanisms require a threshold concentration of certain nutrients in order to work efficiently. If you split them up, you will not reach that point.
30 ml Basic 1 and 2.... do you have a 6000 liter tank?

No, nothing, 6,000 liters. I added 30 ml at random, for example. So, Basic 1 and Basic 2 were dosed in a single dose. I had missed this, so thanks for the help.
